Srinagar, Jul 23 (KNO): Chief Minister’s Advisor, Nasir Aslam Wani Wednesday accused the opposition of political compromise that led to loss of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and statehood. Speaking to reporters in Kupwara, advisor Wani as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “It is the opposition who are at fault. Had they acted with integrity in 2014 and not joined hands with the BJP for the sake of power, we wouldn’t have lost our special status and statehood". “We were forced to bring the resolution", he said. On asking about the absence of National Conference (NC) representatives during the Congress protests regarding the delay in statehood restoration, Wani said the party was not informed or invited to join the demonstration. “We had no information. They (Congress) didn’t inform us about the protest. we would have definitely stood with them if informed,” he said. Reaffirming that the NC and Congress share an electoral alliance, advisor Wani said, “There’s no second thought of it, but when a decision is taken and the alliance partner has no knowledge of it, then how can one expect cooperation?” About the restoration of statehood, he reiterated that NC has opted for a path that will bear fruit soon. However, he refrained from elaborating further on the party’s specific strategy. Speaking about the ongoing Parliament session, advisor Wani said, “NC has a member in Parliament and he should raise the statehood restoration issue.” When asked about speculations regarding a possible cabinet reshuffle, the advisor ruled out the rumors, saying it was solely the Chief Minister’s entitlement. “No one knows what is on the Chief Minister’s plate. Until a reshuffle is officially announced, these are just baseless rumors,” he said—(KNO)
